Law enforcement officials in Terry County are investigating reports of counterfeit bills used in Brownfield, according to police.
Brownfield Police Chief Tony Serbantez said the fake money was in the form of $100 bills.
“We believe that the bills may be made locally in Brownfield,” Serbantez said.
He explained the counterfeits were discovered in two different varieties. The first type was “pretty close to real,” but he said the other kind was printed with “For Motion Pictures Only.”
Police said the Secret Service was being contacted.
“We’re telling merchants to be really diligent of these $100 bills,” Serbantez said.
This is a developing story. Additional information will be added when it becomes available.
