Frenship Independent School District is honored to announce that Frenship High School senior Chase Guthrie has been selected to receive a congressional appointment to the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York.
Guthrie, who was nominated as a candidate by United States Representative Randy Neugebauer, will be notified of his appointment during a presentation by the Congressman on Monday, March 7 at 9:00 a.m. in the Frenship High School Performing Arts Center.
Guthrie, a member of the FHS National Honor Society, ranks in the top three percent of the FHS Class of 2016. He participates in the FISD Superintendent’s Select program and has been a member of the FHS marching band and tennis team each of the last four years.
Guthrie is also an Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America and participated in New Century Leadership with the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce.
Guthrie follows a long family history of military service. His dad, Brigadier General Darrell Guthrie, served as Commanding General of the 104th Division at Joint Base Lewis–McChord in Washington after serving United States Army Cadet Command, Deputy Commanding General, Army Reserve Support and Accessions at Fort Knox in Kentucky.
Both of Guthrie’s brothers currently serve in the military as well. Pierce and wife Katherine are Captains in the United States Marine Corps, and D.J., a 1st Lieutenant in the United States Army, recently returned home from deployment in Afghanistan.
