When Lubbock Police Officers arrived on scene, they determined that Texas Tech Police made a student welfare check late this afternoon, on Hollis Daniels. Upon entering Daniels’ room, officers found evidence of drugs and drug paraphernalia. Officers took Daniels to the police station for standard debriefing.

During this time, Daniels pulled a gun and mortally shot an officer. The suspect then fled on foot. At that point, with an active shooter on Texas Tech campus, a full SWAT call out was made.

The Lubbock Police Department then assisted the Texas Tech Police Department in locating Daniels near the Lubbock Municipal Coliseum.

Any other questions regarding tonight’s events should be directed to Chris Cook with Texas Tech University.
