It’s been about a month since Texas Tech beat Purdue in a Sweet 16 matchup, but the mayors of Lubbock and West Lafayette, Indiana, did not forget about their friendly wager.

Leading up to the game, Lubbock Mayor Dan Pope offered to send brisket from Tom & Bingo’s BBQ to Indiana if the Boilmakers bested the Red Raiders.

Meanwhile, West Lafayette Mayor John Dennis wagered a case of root beer from his town’s renowned Triple XXX Family Restaurant if Texas Tech secured a win.

Texas Tech defeated Purdue, 78-65, to move onto the Elite 8.

Pope had the chance to try the Triple XXX Root Beer for the first time Wednesday afternoon and seemed to enjoy his prize.

The restaurant’s owners, Carrie and Greg Ehresman, traveled from Indiana to present Pope with the case at City Hall. A video message from Mayor Dennis was also played.
