At approximately 1:30 p.m. today [Thursday] near 700 Main Street, 43-year-old Tyrone Carter was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Services for aggravated kidnapping and aggravated sexual assault. The Lubbock Police Department Family Crimes Unit presented the charges to the District Attorney’s Office, and a warrant was issued for his arrest in connection to a January kidnapping case involving a juvenile.
On January 13th, the juvenile flagged down a Lubbock police officer in the area of East 34th Street and Juniper Avenue. The juvenile told the officer she had been held in an abandoned apartment complex nearby and there could be more victims.
Immediately dozens of officers, SWAT members and detectives arrived on scene to search every building and room at the abandoned Coronado Village Apartments where the victim said she was held.
After thoroughly searching each room and building multiple times, officers found no indication of additional victims.
The juvenile was taken to the hospital to be treated and her family was notified. After talking with detectives, the juvenile told police she had been abducted the day before. At the time the juvenile was found, she had not been reported missing.
This remains an ongoing investigation by the Lubbock Police Department.
(Press release from Lubbock Police Department)
NOTE: This is a corrected version of the press release. The first statement from police said he had been indicted. Police corrected their statement to say he was the subject of an arrest warrant instead of an indictment.
