The Lubbock Police Department is actively searching for 31-year-old Casey Canales Jr. An arrest warrant was issued this morning for Canales for four counts of aggravated assault on a public servant and one count of evading arrest in a motor vehicle.

On Wednesday around 3:40 p.m., a Lubbock Police officer heard a gunshot come from a black Dodge Charger sitting in the area of 40th Street and Avenue S. The officer followed the car in an attempt to get the license plate information.

The driver parked in the area of 32nd Street and Avenue L and got out of the car.

Once additional officers arrived, they began to approach the male who then jumped back into the car.

Officers attempted to contain and block the car from leaving. The driver, believed to be Casey Canales Jr., put the car in drive and rammed a pickup truck parked along the street. He then put the car in reverse to back up and then sped forward striking the pickup again in an effort to flee the area. He continued to do this several times as officers commanded him to stop and get out of the vehicle.

The Charger hit a total of five vehicles including three Lubbock Police Department vehicles. During the incident an officer was struck by a pickup truck Canales rammed. The officer was knocked to the ground but was not injured. A second officer had to jump out of the way of the car as it eventually broke free and sped away.

An officer attempted to follow the suspects but lost sight of the car. A short time later, the Charger was found abandoned in the area of 2025 County Road 7220.

Officers received information that at least one of the suspects from the Charger got into a white Nissan. Deputies with the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office and the DPS helicopter spotted the Nissan out in the county.

Deputies initiated a pursuit that ended in the area of University and 36th Street where a male, 18-year-old Dakota Canales, bailed out of the car and ran. Deputies caught up with Canales and took him into custody.

Dakota Canales is believed to be the passenger who was in the Charger during the incident on 32nd Street and Avenue L.

Through the investigation, officers were able to identify the driver of the Charger as Dakota’s cousin, Casey Canales.

Canales is considered armed and dangerous. If anyone has any information on Casey Canales’s whereabouts please call the Lubbock Police Department or Crime Line at (806)741-1000.
