Lubbock County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to the scene of a homicide Wednesday morning at about 6:40 a.m. in Northeast Lubbock County.

An 18-year-old woman was found dead at a home in the 2900 block of County Road 3200.   Early Wednesday evening, the Lubbock Sheriff’s Office identified the young woman as Holli Jeffcoat.

The LSO said multiple 911 calls came in and a family member made the initial discovery of the body. She had been stabbed.

“Whoever is responsible for this attempted to conceal the crime with fire,” said LSO Lieutenant Bryan Taylor  “Right now, we don’t believe this to be random.”

Taylor did not describe how much fire damage was inside the house, but images from the scene showed the home to be clearly in tact.

Earlier in the day, LSO said individuals had been questioned but no arrests had been made yet.

Idalou ISD announced Wednesday night that classes were canceled for Thursday, February 11.

The superintendent of Idalou ISD said grief counselors were on hand for students at the high school on Wednesday.

“There’s been some shock, there’s some sadness,” said Jim Waller, Idalou ISD Superintendent. “Students are resilient, and they bounce back and they bounce around emotionally, and those are the things that we’ll have to be watching the next couple of days, because today’s not necessarily going to be the only day we’re going to have to deal with this.”

“We have a plan in place,” which he explained also included an administrator meeting to outline the district’s “crisis response.”

“I hate to say this but we’ve had to use it before,” he added. “Most schools have to deal with this, it’s part of life, and so we’ve put that plan in place and we’ve been dealing with that all day today.”

On Wednesday afternoon Idalou ISD released the following statement:

It is with deep sadness that we inform you about the tragic loss of one of our High School students early this morning.  Our hearts and thoughts go out to the student’s family, friends and loved ones as they cope with this loss.  To help each of us deal with this loss the members of the district crisis response team made up of professionals trained to help with the needs of students, parents, and school personnel, are present to provide support, comfort, and reassurance to students who need support.  I ask that the community of Idalou once again pull together and support the students and parents during this time of tragedy.

Sincerely, Jim Waller, Superintendent, Idalou ISD.
