The Lubbock City Council and Mayor Dan Pope recognized May 7 – 14, 2017, as “National Music Week” in Lubbock. This year’s theme is “Music – An Adventure in Life.” It’s a week dedicated to encouraging all Lubbock residents to recognize musicians for their dedication to bring culture, joy, and entertainment to the community.
National Music Week is sponsored by the National Federation of Music Clubs (NFMC), which dedicates itself to encouraging young musicians, increasing musical knowledge, and advancing American music through the support of its cooperating organizations.
The Allegro Music Club and Lubbock Music Club, two local chapters of the NFMC who advocated for the city’s recognition of National Music Week, join with the NFMC to be a dynamic musical influence within the community and the entire region. The Allegro and Lubbock Music Clubs also provide scholarship funds to area students and offer them the opportunity to continue to make and enjoy music.
Music plays a vital role in our world today, is the language of all peoples, and is one of the greatest forces in creating peace and harmony.
