The 2016-2017 president of the State Bar of Texas, Frank E. Stevenson II is the featured speaker for the spring 2017 Texas Tech University School of Law Hooding Ceremony at 6 p.m. May 20 at United Supermarkets Arena.
Stevenson is a partner in the Dallas office of Locke Lord LLP. He has specialized in real estate, transportation, governmental and finance law for 36 years. He performs various community legal work in Dallas, including serving as a trustee and vice chair of the Dallas Bar Foundation, serving on the Texas Commission to Expand Civil Legal Services and serving in the State Bar’s Pro Bono Workgroup.
“The Texas Tech University School of Law is fortunate to have a person of Frank Stevenson’s stature address its new graduates, their families and guests, and the law faculty,” said School of Law Interim Dean Richard Rosen. “His record of service to the Bar and the attorneys of this state is unparalleled. We are deeply honored that he will join us for our Hooding Ceremony.”
Prior to being elected president of the State Bar, Stevenson was a member of the State Bar Board of Directors and chaired the board. He also served on the board of the Dallas Bar Association for 14 years. Stevenson has won two awards from Legal Aid of Northwest Texas and was honored for founding programs to advance professionalism for beginning lawyers and to expand diversity.
Stevenson graduated magna cum laude from Amherst College in 1977. He then attended the University of Virginia, where he earned his juris doctorate in 1980. He served in several positions at Amherst College, including as past president of the Amherst Alumni Association of North Texas. Stevenson was awarded Amherst College’s Medal for Eminent Service, which is given to a notable alumnus each year.
Stevenson’s contributions to the Dallas community include serving as the immediate past president of the Sammons Center of the Arts, an associate member of the Dallas Citizens council, a board member of the North Dallas Chamber of Commerce and an elder and teacher at Northridge Presbyterian Church.
