Laughing App
A new app that’s grabbing kids’ attention without having all the action or fast moving graphics are played out.
This approach is a more calm and creative way to keep your child entertained for a few minutes of their screen time.
Catherine Mayer, creator of the LAUGH app said,“I noticed how profound it was an experience for people to become part of the painting.”
LAUGH stands for Let Art Unleash Great Happiness. The target audience Mayer is wanting to reach are four year old children, like Kalea. The app takes kids through simple art exercises while encouraging them to slow down. Mayer says, “in the beginning sometimes they want to go faster ‘casue they’re programmed.”
The Seattle Children’s Research Institute tested LAUGH on dozens of children and found that when kids combined are with breathing exercises they had lower heart rates and higher concentration levels.
Catherine Mayer says,“I was passionate about no just creating an app because that’s not my goal, but to actually have medical evidence saying using this app, we can say medically shows significant results.”
Mayer hopes both teachers and parents will turn to the free app when their kids want screen time but also need a dose of mindfulness.
“They’re learning how to look and not think about 10 million things at one time,” Mayer added.
