Texas Tech University will host International Week, a full week of events devoted to celebrating the many different cultures in the world, from April 24 to May 1.

Students, faculty and staff will have the opportunity to participate in events hosted by the Office of International Affairs (OIA) along with several other departments and organizations on campus and within the community.

“While every week is ‘International Week’ at Texas Tech, given the extent of our university’s global engagement, we are delighted to focus during one week on our international people and our international activities,” said Ambassador Tibor Nagy, vice provost for International Affairs. “The week’s events show off how tremendously our campus benefits from internationalization.”

The weeklong festivities will begin Monday (April 24) with an open house at the International Cultural Center (ICC) from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.  All faculty and staff are welcome to try international cuisine from local restaurants, tour the art exhibits of the ICC and explore services offered by the OIA.

“Throughout the week, we’ll feature scholarly and cultural activities involving international students, scholars, faculty and staff along with highlighting Texas Tech participants in study abroad, international research and other international opportunities,” Nagy said.

On Saturday (April 29), international students from the cultures of Angola, Cote D’Ivoire, Eastern Europe, India, Iran, Levant, Nepal, Philippines, Sri Lanka and the United States will perform in the Worldwide Showcase from 5-7 p.m. at the City Bank Auditorium.

“This annual international talent show allows our students to celebrate their talents and diversity though cultural music and dance,” said Chris Lemmons, International Student Life administrator.

The festivities will conclude with the annual Global Vision Awards ceremony from 4-5:30 p.m. May 1 at the ICC. The Global Vision Awards recognize members of the university and Lubbock communities for their work to promote internationalization.

Other events happening throughout the week include exhibits, forums, presentations, programs and receptions focusing on a variety of topics. A complete list of International Week events can be found here.
