Following the Burns Park murder where 20-year-old Roy Reed was shot and killed during an altercation between two friend groups, parents are speaking out about the danger of escalating fights on Facebook.

Roy Reed’s father, Willie Reed said Roy was not involved in the ongoing Facebook feud between the two groups but showed up to the park to make sure his cousin was okay.

Reed said the groups had posted videos of their previous fights on Facebook. On the night of the shooting, nearly 50 people were there.

“Trying to Facebook a fight, is unnecessary, an innocent man’s life got taken for no apparent reason,” Reed said. “For kids wanting to show up to fight on Facebook.”

A similar situation happened two years back. Ivan Williams said his daughter Alize Henderson was dragged into a fight that wasn’t her own. Williams said his daughter’s friend had an ongoing fight with other girls on Facebook.

As things escalated, the girls had a confrontation and Henderson was stabbed and killed.

“Just by being a bystander get dragged into it, or just by being a friend or relative you get dragged into it,” Williams said.”It only takes five minutes to change your life, in a conversation, and words typed in a computer is not worth your life, because eventually you are going to run into the one that you have a confrontation with and like I said you cant reset it, you cant go back and start it over.”
