3D Printers
More and more people are using 3D printers for education, medical research, and now even to design cars. Ford Motor Company could be the first automotive company in the country to use 3D printers to change the way the company makes its cars.
Ford is experimenting with the printers for car parts. The company figures the parts will be lighter thus leading to a more fuel efficient car. The parts that Ford is currently designing with 3D printers are parts like spoilers or plastic moldings for the cars interiors.
If Ford’s experiment works, 3D printed parts could be used for mass-market cars and trucks in the near future.
Suicide Prevention Tools on Facebook
The social media giant Facebook are expanding their existing suicide prevention tools. This move comes after a series of live-streamed suicides. The company says they’re going to do more to prevent it.
Facebook announced new suicide prevention tools built in to their live features. Users streaming on ‘Facebook live’ and their audience will be able to get access to live support from crisis intervention programs as well as making it easier for users to report suicide or self injury cases.
Facebook is even using artificial intelligence to help identify warning signs. Dr. Alexander Niculescu specializes in personalized medicine and neuropsychiatric disorders.
Dr. Niculescu says, “I think we’re in a brave new world where social media is part of the fabric of society and we need to adapt to that.” Seeing how Facebook has become so important to our society it’s improtant to address everyday challenges in a space where they can reach the most people and Dr. Niculescu says Facebook has the ability to do that.
