Plainview is home to four different working dairies, and the Vista Grande Dairy has been open since 1999. They currently milk around 3,500 head of cows.

They milk three times day and each cow produces, on average, 82 pounds of milk. Dairy member, Bernadette Mulliken, says that being a dairy farmer requires a lot of time and effort from the team, but the care of the cows is always the top priority.

“We build for cow comfort,” Mulliken said. “Our cows are really cared for and that’s our number one concern.”

Even the feed is carefully measured to ensure each cow is getting the proper nutrients. Mulliken says that there is much to be considered when it comes to the feed and care of these animals.
