Texas Tech added to its slate of future non-conference games Friday as Director of Athletics Kirby Hocutt announced a two-game, home-and-home football series against North Texas.

As part of the agreement, the Red Raiders will host North Texas on Sept. 14, 2024, before traveling to Apogee Stadium in Denton to complete the series on Sept. 11, 2027. It will be the first meeting between the two schools since the 2001 season.

The Red Raiders are 4-4 all-time against North Texas with wins in three of the last four contests. Tech routed the Mean Green, 42-14, in the 2001 meeting which took place at Texas Stadium in Irving, the former home of the Dallas Cowboys.

Tech has traveled to face the Mean Green just twice in its history – the first being in 1952 when North Texas handed the Red Raiders a 34-19 setback. Tech returned to Denton in 1998 to blank North Texas, 30-0, in what was the second of a five-year stretch where the two schools met yearly.

The North Texas series is one of several lined up for the Red Raiders in upcoming seasons as Tech also has agreements with Eastern Washington (2017), Houston (2017-18, 2021-22), Montana State (2019), UTEP (2019-20), Wyoming (2020, 2023) and Colorado State (2025-26).

In addition, Tech is also slated to face a slew of opponents from power-five conferences as the Red Raiders will complete a home-and-home series against Arizona State this fall before facing Arizona (2019-20), N.C. State (2022, 2027) and Oregon (2023-24) in future seasons.

The Red Raiders open the 2017 season on Sept. 2 when Eastern Washington travels to Jones AT&T Stadium. Fans wishing to purchase 2017 season tickets can still place a deposit with the Texas Tech Ticket Office by either purchasing online or by calling 806-742-TECH. The complete 2017 football season ticket renewal package will be distributed in the upcoming weeks.
