The International Academies of Emergency Dispatch has recognized the UMC EMS Communications Center as an Accredited Center of Excellence.
This accomplishment represents the highest certification possible for EMS Communication Centers. UMC EMS is one of only 229 communications centers worldwide and the seventh in Texas to earn this distinction.
“The accreditation process was a very challenging and extensive one,” said Jerin Tyler, chief, UMC EMS Communication Center. “The UMC EMS Communication Center System Status Controllers embraced the challenge of becoming the best of the best. What we have completed as a team shows the dedication of the Communication Center to the people we serve”
Accreditation places UMC EMS among other industry leaders sharing a common goal of improving public health while maximizing the efficiency and effectiveness of the 911 emergency response system. The International Academies of Emergency Dispatch, by establishing the Accreditation Program, prescribed a rigorous, 20-point standard by which communication centers are evaluated.
After submitting an application and supportive data attesting to achieving these 20 standards, the UMC EMS Communications Center was evaluated in person by a member of the Academies’ peer review team in December. Official notification of the accomplishment was received Jan. 19.
UMC EMS’ journey to accreditation began with the initiation of Medical Priority Dispatch System in July 2016. UMC EMS extends a special thank you to our partner agency, Lubbock Fire Rescue, for their support and participation in the accreditation process.
UMC EMS will be recognized at Navigator 2017 in April in New Orleans.
UMC Health System is ranked among the top 10 percent of hospitals in the nation for patient experience by Healthgrades, and has consistently ranked among the best places to work in Texas by the Best Companies Group. More than 500,000 patients a year choose UMC.
