Happy Thursday everyone! It has been a much cooler day across the South Plains with the cold air moving in from behind the cold front that pushed through last night. We will remain chilly tomorrow with highs in the low 50’s but we will see an increase in cloud cover to start out the weekend. There will be a minor chance for rain in the Southern South Plains Friday midday, with a slightly higher (10% chance) likelihood of rain across the region on Saturday afternoon as well as Sunday evening. Thankfully temperatures will rebound back into the upper 50’s and low 60’s for the holiday weekend making it a bit more comfortable for the New Year’s celebrations. Keep in mind that winds will be breezy throughout the weekend making it very easy for fires to start and spread so try to refrain from shooting off fireworks this weekend. We will start out the new year warm and sunny but by Wednesday we will see the effects of a strong arctic airmass and temperatures will plummet back into the low 30’s for our highs.
