New research in the New England Journal of Medicine found pregnant women who take fish oil with fatty acids every day have babies that are one-third less likely to have a persistent wheeze or asthma. Danish researchers tracked nearly 700 mothers and their children for three years to show the reduced risk of breathing problems.
Children are also breathing better in communities that have indoor smoking bans according to a new study.
Researchers from the University of Chicago looked at 20 U.S. cities where smoking isn’t allowed in public places and found the number of children going to the emergency room for asthma attacks decreased 17-percent over a three year period.
A Canadian study found some critically ill patients can safely cycle in bed with the help of a physiotherapist. Researchers found cycling allows patients to strengthen their legs, recover more quickly and walk further once they’re able to go home.
