Lubbock Police Chief Greg Stevens was among the people who applied for Lubbock City Manager this year as revealed by open records.
Ultimately the City Council chose Jarrett Atkinson who officially started the job on Monday, December 12.
EverythingLubbock.com made an open records request in September relating to the names of candidates. On Thursday, the request was turned over and Stevens was found among them.
“If the city council was not satisfied with outside candidates then they could consider me as an internal candidate,” Stevens said.
“I was hesitant to apply but others approached me. And I said I’m okay with that,” Stevens said.
He wanted to be very clear that he is happy to be the police chief.
“I’m excited about Jarrett Atkinson and very optimistic about the future of the city,” Stevens said.
Stevens sent his application to a consulting firm on August 21 which in turn forwarded the application to the City of Lubbock on September 13.
