Lubbock Police said David Valdez, 23, of Lubbock was arrested Thursday afternoon for aggravated assault. More specifically, he was accused of stealing a pickup truck with a 3-year-old boy inside.
Police said on the evening of November 23, the owner of the truck was talking to the child’s mother in the front yard of a home in the 5000 block of 53rd Street.
“An unknown male got into the truck which was still running,” police said.
The father, Ishmael Garcia, 34, ran after the pickup truck and managed to get into the bed of the truck.
Police said, “The father broke the back window with a pole that was lying in the bed of the pickup, and he attempted to hit the suspect with the pole hoping it would make him stop the truck. The suspect finally jumped out of the pickup.”
The truck hit a home in the 5600 block of Peoria Avenue. The child was not injured. Dad suffered scrapes and cuts to his hands.
