So far this season the Red Raider basketball team has checked all the boxes.
They’re off to a 5-1 start, just like last season.
Their 80-point scoring average, almost six points more per game than they were scoring at this same point a year ago.
And in all six games, they’ve outscored opponents by double-digits in the second half.
If that’s not a good sign of things to come under first year head coach Chris Beard, then I don’t know what is.
The lone game they came up short in, was against Auburn in the Cancun challenge over Thanksgiving weekend. It was a ball game in which the Red Raiders overcame a 19-point deficit before falling by two at the buzzer, but a loss in which Beard thinks will pay dividends come March.
“You hope it’s a great learning tool. I told the guys again yesterday that we’re never going to forget that game. This whole idea of moving on after a loss, I’ve never agreed with. I don’t think you understand how to win, if you’ve moved on from a loss. You continue to learn from it,” Beard said. “I think when you get into March Madness and things like this, the idea of survive and advance, this is different, but right now we always reflect on past games and try to learn from our past experiences.”
