Talk about a Monday headline.
If the Red Raiders needed bulletin board material headed into their matchup against the University of Texas this Saturday, then they got it.
At the Texas Longhorns Monday luncheon, sophomore defensive end Breckyn Hager said that the Texas defense plans to rough up Texas Tech junior quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
When Hager was asked about Texas Tech and Oklahoma’s record setting game, the FBS record 1,708 yards between both teams, the 125 points scored, and what that made him feel he responded:
“It makes me feel like I have to go injure the quarterback,” Hager said.
When Hager was asked what his mentality was entering the game against Texas Tech he then followed his previous comments with:
“I say injure that quarterback. That’s the mentality right now. We’ve got to take him out. We know he’s banged up. We just got to get after him.” Hager said.

Later Monday afternoon, Texas football’s Twitter account released a statement from Hager and head football coach Charlie Strong, apologizing for the comments.
