Donald Trump said he will accept the results of the Presidential Election—if he wins.
“He’s having fun,” said Lt. Governor Dan Patrick, who is the head of Trump’s campaign efforts in Texas.
“Could he have said it more artfully? …Maybe,” Patrick said.
The Republican Presidential nominee has repeatedly claimed the election is rigged against him.
Trump told supporters Friday, “We have a bunch of babies running our country folks, we have a bunch of losers.”
But even if he loses and Hillary Clinton takes the White House—there will be a peaceful transition of power, according to Patrick.
“He [Trump] will not be happy if he loses, and neither will I, and neither will all the people who support him but we’ll accept it, absolutely,” Patrick said.
Patrick believes Trump’s comments meant the Trump campaign will leave no stone unturned, to make sure the election results are accurate.
Patrick used the example of the 2000 recount, “If there’s another Florida, where it’s close and it comes down to one state and this election could come down to one state,” Patrick said.
He also mentioned the possibility of voter fraud, “and we are seeing a lot of voter fraud everywhere now,” said Patrick.
The Deputy Director of the Democratic Party of Texas, Manny Garcia called the claims of widespread voter fraud in Texas “a myth.”
Garcia said, “It’s unfortunate that we are seeing the Republican Party trying to scare people from the polls and questioning the integrity of the election before it even happens.”
Clinton said her opponent’s unprecedented refusal to commit that he will accept the election results is “horrifying.” “One of our hallmarks has always been we accept the outcomes of our elections,” Clinton said.
Dangerous is the word President Barack Obama used to describe it. “Because when you try to sow the seeds of doubt in peoples’ minds about the legitimacy of the elections, that undermines our democracy,” President Obama said.
At the party’s state headquarters in Austin Friday, Texas Democrats welcomed a sitting Republican who is leaving the GOP.
Judge Lauren Parish of District 115 in East Texas is the second judge in the state to jump ship and switch to the Democratic Party in the last two weeks.
“From a moral perspective, I had no option,” Parish said.
Parish, who is not up for reelection this year, said she could not support a candidate who questioned the integrity of the entire democratic process.
“It would violate my conscience to continue my affiliation with the Republican Party,” Parish said.
Patrick said the Democrats are making “much ado about nothing.”
He added that if Clinton wins, “there are going to be a lot of Americans that don’t accept the outcome, but they are going to move on.”
Patrick said he hopes Clinton supporters will do the same if Trump wins.
If there is a recount or voter fraud investigations, Patrick said he has no doubt that after all the dust settles, “We have the peaceful transition as we always do in this country,” Patrick said.
