It’s National Adoption Day, and thousands of children will be adopted into their forever homes across the country, including right here in Lubbock.
On Friday morning, the Department of Family and Protective Services held an adoption ceremony for more than 20 children being adopted into 14 families.
City Councilman, Randy Christian said this day is significant to the Lubbock community because it shines a light on all the kids who need a home.
“There’s 289 kids that are eligible for adoption and 215 of those are in Lubbock County,” he said. “So when we bring something like this, this morning, it’s just so important to give people an opportunity to who might have been thinking about adoption and maybe it gives them that nudge to go ahead and do it, so it’s a very important event.”
Danielle and Tucker Brown have officially adopted their son, Mason. They said it has been incredible.
“God has just done amazing things and just held us this whole time and it’s been a process, but we’ve had a lot of support from our family and our friends. And, Mason’s an amazing little boy; we’re so blessed to have him. Honestly, everybody we’ve worked with from CPS and ECI and everybody’s just been fabulous. So, it’s actually been a really great experience,” Danielle Brown said.
The Browns’ journey of adoption lasted 14 months, they said.
“It’s incredible to see the outpour of love and support and that we’ve had, and just an amazing journey,” they said. “It wasn’t one that we were expecting, but one that we’re so grateful that happened. Just it’s something that if God puts it on your heart, just to do it because it’s totally worth it.”
Last year, more than 5,000 Texas children and teens were adopted. If you’re interested in learning more about how to become an adoptive family, visit the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services website.
