LUBBOCK, Texas — Lubbock city swimming pools were opened for the 2019 summer season Tuesday afternoon. The line to get in to their four locations was so long, it went out the front door.
“We’ve been out here for hours, but it’s worth it because for us this is our family time,” said Daniel Moreno, a pool-goer. “We love it here, we come every year.”
The opening date went on without a hitch, but officials say storm damage was a continuous worry for them.
“Every single day we were vacuuming or fishing things out,” said Jennifer Walker, Lubbock Parks & Recreation. “It was worth it because now our pools are pristine, but for a moment it was a definite hassle.”
According to the city, the pools are open Tuesday through Sunday from 1 p.m to 6 p.m. Kids 17 and under pay $2 at the door, adults pay $3 at the door, and kids 2-years-old and under are free.
