The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating a deadly crash that happened early Friday morning near Lorenzo.

According to DPS, around 4:30 a.m., they received a call of a pedestrian who was hit by a car.

DPS said there were actually two accidents that had occurred.

The first crash was a Ford Mustang, going west on U.S. 62/82, that went into the center median and then over-corrected, going off the road into a field.

DPS said the driver and the passenger in that car then got out of their car after their dog got loose and was running around on the road.

The two were trying to find their dog when a 49 year old woman driving a KIA going west on 62/82 hit the two people on the road, according to DPS.

DPS said the two people walking on the road were killed and the driver of the KIA car was not injured.

DPS identified one of the pedestrians who died in the crash as Chaya Grace Stillwaterlanz, 30, of Oregon.

The second pedestrian was identified Saturday morning as Joaquin T. Saloma, 30, of Shallowater.

“The man that was also struck has not yet been identified,” DPS said.

Friday morning, the right lane and shoulder of U.S. 62/82 westbound were closed as the investigation continued. DPS said it is now open again.
