Thunderstorms are forecasted for high school football games for Thursday evening and throughout the weekend and Lubbock ISD told KLBK and EverythingLubbock.com they’re prepared for any type of weather.

LISD Assistant Athletic Director Mike Meeks said safety is the top priority for their athletes, officials, fans, and staff.

He added that if weather becomes a factor in the game, they have a protocol set in place.

Meeks said as long as it’s not heavy downpour, the game will continue.

“It is the lightening that we’re worried about,” Meeks said. “We operate off of a basically a flash to bank, you know thirty seconds, five miles away. We work off of three to eight lightening indicators.”

If lightening approaches the stadium, the game will be delayed for 30 minutes.

LISD Athletic Department said an umbrella or poncho is allowed inside the stadium.
