Mothers Against Drunk Driving Victims Services Specialist Amanda Eldridge said the number of alcohol-related car crashes is increasing in Lubbock.
“Last year we lost someone every 53 minutes to a drunk driving crash and now it’s 51 minutes,” Elrdidge said. “So we had about 1,000 increase from last year.”
MADD’s Lubbock chapter hosted the annual 5K walk to create awareness and end this crime.
“Just because someone is drinking and they’re the driver and they get in a crash they think it just effects them,” Eldridge said. “But there are so many other lives that are effected. The victims that they hit, their lives, the offender, their families’ lives are effected, their life is effected, and those effected came together today to remember their lost loved ones.”

We walk because together we will end drunk driving. We walk to finish the job that was started by a grieving mother in 1980. We walk with supporters who share our vision of no more drunk driving. We walk for those who no longer can, and alongside those who are learning to walk again. We walk empowered even when we feel powerless, as survivor when we have been victimized and with purpose when we have lost our way. We walk because the need is not over. The problem is not solved. We are not satisfied with the progress.
The mission of Mothers Against Drunk Driving is to end drunk driving, help fight drugged driving, support the victims of this violent crime and to prevent underage drinking.
