MyHighPlains.com reported Wednesday that the City of Tulia offered a loan to Swisher County to keep the county jail open.

The city manager said the $100,000 loan was awaiting county commissioner’s approval.

County Judge Harold Keeter said the money would keep the jail open through the end of the next fiscal year and give the county more time to decide if the jail should remain open beyond that.

The Swisher County Commission tabled the vote to accept at this week’s meeting, but is expected to make a decision during a meeting next Tuesday.
