United Blood Services is inviting everyone to Battle of the Badge Blood Drive from Friday through Sunday. The Battle of the Badge is a community blood drive to help combat summertime blood shortages at local hospitals.

Brandon Baker, the Regional Donor Recruitment Manager for United Blood Services, said it’s a fun way to combat blood shortages.

A written statement said, “Donors have an opportunity to vote for either the Police or Firefighter as their hero, with the winning department winning bragging rights and a trophy!”

“Donating blood is really easy to do there really is not anything too evolved with the process and it’s pretty quick,” Baker said.

He added he blood drive is essential because each year it gets harder to maintain a stable blood supply in the summer months.

Baker also said that they use about 130 pints of a blood a day.

“All the blood donors that come out, that blood goes directly to the hospitals and straight to those patients that are in need,” Baker said.
