Correctional Officer Marianne Johnson, who was attacked and killed by an inmate at the the French Robertson Unit in Abilene, was laid to rest Friday morning in Mansfield.
Correctional Officers from across the State of Texas came to pay their respects for Johnson and her family.
Her friends and coworkers from were also in attendance to honor her memory.
Johnson is remembered as a lover of black and white movies, the Green Bay Packers, and God.
She was born in a small farming community in California, but later moved to Texas and quickly fell in love. Her family said she was a wonderful person who will be missed dearly.
Officer Johnson was found unresponsive in the kitchen area of the prison unit around 3:00 a.m. Saturday morning. Inmate Dillion Gage Compton, 21, has been named as the suspect responsible for her death, according to the TDCJ.
A press release said Compton, “who was assigned to the kitchen area, allegedly attacked Officer Johnson when she entered a storage area near the kitchen.”
The TDCJ said Compton was serving prison time for Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child Under the Age of 14.
Compton was moved to a maximum security at an undisclosed location.
“Investigators with the Office of the Inspector General-TDCJ continue to gather evidence and will present it to the Jones County District Attorney once their investigation is complete,” according to the press release.
