Zach Wilkinson, 14, waited more than a year for his wish to be granted. In June, just one week after school let out for summer, it finally came true.
“It took me a couple of days (for me) to actually realize that we were going to leave that next week,” he said.
When Zach was 12, he was diagnosed with cancer. Beating the disease proved to be a battle but Zach was up for a fight. He had to endure numerous rounds of chemotherapy and radiation treatments before learning the cancer had returned.
“I was devastated,” Zach told EverythingLubbock.com in August 2015.
Zach would go on to beat cancer twice and when his doctors cleared him to go, Make-A-Wish made sure to make Zach’s wish a priority. He wanted to go to the Bahamas.
Just days after a surprise wish reveal at his school, Zach had his bags packed and was on a plane to the sprawling Atlantis resort in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.
