Amarillo Police were called to the Kiva Motel after Alexis Wartena, 7, was reported missing around 5:00 p.m. Tuesday. On Wednesday morning a body was found in a lake near the motel, according to KAMR in Amarillo.
“Officer Jeb Hilton says there are officers on foot, in the water, and a chopper is in the air,” KAMR said.
Police did a room to room search Tuesday then extended their search to the parking lot. Police said Alexis is nonverbal autistic child but does respond to her name.
Police said the child was last with her parents when they said she suddenly wasn’t there.
Darkness stalled the search overnight but with the morning light a dive team entered a lake near the motel.
Hilton said there is no evidence so far that Wartena has been taken. Police are accepting information at 806-378-4248.
As of yet, police have not identified the body. However, Just before 11:00 am, the Texas DPS sent out a notice by email to say that the missing person alert for Alexis Wartena was canceled.
