A 36-year-old  former youth minister faces a forgery charge after a Wichita Falls woman says he forged one of her checks.

Jaime Gavilanes, formerly the Welch Street Church of Christ Youth and Family minister, faces one count of forgery of an elderly person.

Police say the victim, who is over age 65, reported her bank notified her one of her checks was cashed and was not signed properly, but her name was written on the left side in the line labeled  “for”  and it was made out to Gavilanes for $175.

She said the forged check and the carbon copy were missing from her check book.

She also told police Gavilanes had been in her house in May for a graduation party.

Police say the account the check was deposited in was in Gavilanes’ name and it was deposited by phone the day Gavilanes was in the home.

Police say a check of the geo location of the phone showed the photo of the check was sent next door to the woman’s home and the phone number was listed to Gavilanes.
