The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) was called to a one vehicle crash on Tierra Blanca road that occurred Monday in Deaf Smith County, resulting in the death of one person.
At approximately 1:03 a.m., James Cole, 33, of Hereford, was driving a 2008 Nissan X-Terra northbound on FM-2856 approximately 1 mile west of Herford. Cole approached the stop intersection of FM-2586 and FM 1058, disregarded the stop sign and continued north across FM-1058 and onto Tierra Blanca road which is a dirt road. When the vehicle made contact with the dirt road, Cole lost control of it, skidding into the east barrow ditch and striking a pipe cable fence.
Cole was pronounced dead on scene by the Deaf Smith County Justice of the Peace Karen Boren.
Cole was not wearing his seat belt.
The road conditions were dry and no other vehicles were involved.
