The Odessa Police Department said a 67-year-old woman suffered serious injuries after being attacked by two dogs Friday.

Officers were dispatched to the area of Ada Street and Lee Avenue about report of a “vicious animal attack.” When officers arrived on the scene, they found Juanita Rodriquez with several wounds to her face, neck and chest from the attack.

Witnesses on the scene told authorities the two dogs attacked Rodriquez while whe was taking out the trash in an alleyway.

Witnesses also reportedly confirmed the dogs came from a home in the 700 block of Lee Avenue.

Officers went to the home and found a fence in “disrepair,” a broken gate and holes in a chain linked fence. 

The dogs had been chained up in the yard but managed to escape.

As a result of the investigation, police arrested and charged the dog owners, Aurelio Hernandez-Leyva and Maria Quintero-Leyva, with attack by dog, a third-degree-felony.

Rodriguez was transported to Medical Center Hospital in critical condition, but was listed in fair condition as of 3 p.m. Friday afternoon.
