Just before 3:00 pm Tuesday, EMS and Lubbock Fire Rescue were called to the 1300 block of 65th Drive for the report of three children, two girls and one boy, injured by a broken glass table in the backyard of the residence.
“We arrived on scene and found three young patients, all under the age of ten, that had injuries sustained from a glass table top. People on scene said they were jumping on the table. The glass table gave away and they sustained their injuries,” said Randy Raedeke, Assistant Chief UMC EMS.
One child had relatively minor injuries and was taken to Covenant Medical Center. Two others suffered serious injuries and were taken to University Medical Center.
The homeowners say the children are family friends and come over quite often, but that they should have known better than to have come by when they were gone for work. The glass table the children were jumping on had been left outside from the previous night’s festivities. The homeowners also say that the children may have been attempting to use the table as a slide.
UMC EMS officials say that while two of the children needed surgery, and the one other required several stitches for their injury, that all of them are expected to be okay.
