According to multiple media reports in Chicago, Sheryl Swoopes has been fired as the head women’s basketball coach at Loyola University in Chicago.
Swoopes, a Brownfield native who played for Marsha Sharp at Texas Tech, is accused of mistreating many of her former players. Players alleged that Swoopes threatened players with the loss of their scholarships and that her coaching style led to 10 of 12 returning player requesting releases from their scholarships.
This season, Swoopes was elected to the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.
