The Silent Wings Museum in Lubbock, Texas and the South Plains Honor Flight will host a very special Medals Ceremony to honor two deserving South Plains veterans at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 29th in the Hangar Gallery at the Silent Wings Museum.
Representative Randy Neugebauer will be in attendance and have the honor of presenting the medals in a short ceremony. Family, special guests, the public and the media are encouraged to attend. There will be coffee and pastries from 9:00-9:30am, with the metals ceremony to follow from 9:30-10:00 a.m.
SFC Jessie Rendon will receive the Bronze Star in honor of his service in Vietnam. He served in Vietnam from 1968-1969 and was awarded the Bronze Star for “Heroism in connection with ground operations against a hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam, while serving with Company D, 1st Battalion, 52nd Infantry” in the U.S. Army.
ARM2c Andy Winnegar will receive his service medals 70 years after his tours during World War II. Winnegar served in the Navy from July 23, 1942 to March 8, 1946.
