The Buddy Holly Center presents John Sprott as a part of the 2016 Summer Showcase Concert Series on Thursday, June 30th from 5:30-7:30p.m.

John Sprott is a Texas-bred guitarist who started playing at the age of 12. During the 80s, he helped form the rock band, The Nelsons. The band achieved success playing in front of 45,000 at Farm Aid and winning MTV’s National Basement Tapes competition in 1983. The Nelsons went on to record an EP the next year and a CD in 1990. After the band went their separate ways in 1991, Sprott formed the Texas Blues Butchers with Kevin Mackey, Sean Frankhouser and Elvis T. Busboy. In 2004, John Sprott was named one of five Texas Tornadoes of Guitar and Bass by Buddy Magazine. Sprott has a full-length album entitled, Ain’t Worried. When speaking to Sprott, you get the impression that this is more than an album title; it’s simply his way of life. His life has been about playing music, and, like so many great blues artists, John Sprott has remained a tried and true musician.

The concert is FREE and open to the public.

The evening will include:

  • Children’s activities
  • Cash Bar
  • Food truck fare  (only beverages purchased onsite will be allowed in the courtyard)
