After a five-week missing persons search, the body of Kathy Lujan, 41, was found Tuesday morning in a drainage ditch in East Midland County.
“It’s really unfortunate that it came down to this,” said Sara Bustilloz, the Midland Police Department’s Public Information Officer.
When Lujan’s common-law husband Juan Gonzales, 44, gave statements to police ultimately guiding them to her body, he was already in the Midland County Detention Center for credit card abuse and violation of federal parole.
More recently he was charged with her murder.
“Anytime we start a missing person investigation we want to see them come home safe and sound, and the more our officers investigated this case, the more clear it became that that wasn’t the case,” Bustilloz said.
Lujan’s body was sent to Tarrant County for an autopsy, according to a police statement.
