Lubbock Police arrested Elvira Mendez Thomas, 63, on Saturday evening for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Police were called to the 5100 block of 39th Street for the report of a woman holding a man at gunpoint.
When police arrived the gun was already put away.
The man said he had showed a photo of a topless woman to Thomas’ grandchild, and Thomas got upset.
“[The victim] said that [Thomas] then retrieved a 22 rifle and has been holding him hostage all day,” a police report said.
The police report also said, “[The victim] then said that [Thomas] had fired the gun in the house.”
Police believed that Thomas fired the gun four times in the house. The man was able to get the gun magazine away from Thomas. And he was able to retrieve a handgun of his own.
However, he gave them over to Thomas when she threatened to call the police for showing a topless photo to her grandchild.
An officer wrote in the police report, “I asked [the victim] why he gave her the magazine and gun if he felt like she was trying to shoot him.”
“[The victim] said that he gave it to her because she said that if he did not give her the magazine she would call the police,” the police report said.
A separate police case was filed for the topless photo. Because the man has not been charged in that second case, EverythingLubbock.com has chosen not to publish his name yet.
Police read the man his rights and he refused to answer questions after that point.
