Job statistics released Friday by the Texas Workforce Commission show Lubbock’s unemployment rose to 3.1 percent during the month of May.

An estimated 152,900 residents in the Lubbock metropolitan statistical area were employed last month. This was a slight increase from the estimated 152,600 in April. These figures are not seasonally adjusted.

The unemployment rate just one year ago was also 3.4 percent for the Lubbock metropolitan statistical area.

The Texas Workforce Commission said the Amarillo area had the lowest unemployment rate in the state at 2.8 percent last month, followed by the Austin-Round Rock area at 3.0 percent. Lubbock had the third lowest unemployment rate in Texas based on May figures.

The unemployment rate in Texas remained unchanged at 4.4 percent.
