Using an open records request, EverythingLubbock.com obtained the contract extension for Texas Tech Head Baseball Coach Tim Tadlock which was announced publicly on May 19.
The base pay is:
July 1, 2016 – June 30, 2017 $375,000
July 1, 2017 – June 30, 2018 $375,000
July 1, 2018 – June 30, 2019 $400,000
July 1, 2019 – June 30, 2020 $400,000
July 1, 2020 – June 30, 2021 $400,000
July 1, 2021 – June 30, 2022 $425,000
The contract also includes incentive-based bonuses. For example he gets one month salary for a conference championship or a conference tournament championship. He earns a half month salary for an NCAA postseason qualifier, an NCAA Super Regional qualifier, and an NCAA World Series qualifier.
He earns $100,000 for a national championship.
Tadlock can be terminated for cause. If he is terminated without cause the university must pay him through the term of the contract.
However, if Tadlock resigns he must pay a penalty which ranges from $235,000 to $275,000 depending on when he resigns.
Tadlock also agreed to a non-compete clause.
It said, “Coach expressly promises and agrees not to engage in employment with another Big 12 Conference school or any other conference in which [the] university is a member in any coaching capacity during term of this agreement.”
If he violates the non-compete clause, he agreed that the penalty for early resignation would not be enough to compensate the university. He agreed that the university might seek an injunction or monetary damages in court for a violation of the non-compete clause.
Tadlock also agreed to not to make a media appearance which would reflect unfavorably on the university. He also agreed his name cannot be willingly used to reflect unfavorably on Texas Tech University.
Tadlock and Athletic Director Kirby Hocutt signed the contract extension on May 18. TTU Interim President John Opperman signed it on May 25.
