An Odessa woman has been arrested and is facing three felony charges following an arson investigation that began last month.
Originally police responded to the 3600 block of Tom Green Avenue about a structure fire and spoke to the homeowner who said a woman entered the home and purposefully set it on fire, according to a release from the department.
The fire, according to the release, killed the mans two cats and a Chihuahua dog.
The man said his ex-girlfriend, 42-year-old Shawn McKenzie-Polk, started making threates towards him after he ended their relationship, according to the release.
Officers later obtained a search warrant for McKenzie-Polks home in the 4200 block of San Jacinto Street and learned that she asked her family to reportedly lie during the investigation.
Police also learened that McKenzie-Polk’s cell phone had been “remotley wiped” destroying all saved and stored data on the device preventing it from being used as evidence in the investigation, according to the release.
McKenzie-Polk was later charged with arson and burglary of a habitation, both are first-degree-felonies, and tampering with physical evidence, a third degree felony.
