George Clooney and Julia Roberts star in Money Monster. He’s a cable finance show personality, who gets taken hostage — on live TV — by a disgruntled investor. She’s his producer who tries to keep them both alive while they try to expose the web of money lies behind the investment’s crash. It’s Rated R and runs just longer than an hour-and-a-half, and it’s directed by Jodie Foster. Get your heart beating at Tinseltown, Alamo or Premiere.

What if the United States Government turned on us — its citizens — after an electro-magnetic pulse attack from a different country? And what if it was all done under the guise of Global Peace? And what if the corporate truth behind it all was finally revealed… after it was too late? That’s the story behind AmeriGEDDON, an independent film in limited release. It will screen at Cinemark Movies 16 for a week, starting Friday. Mike Norris — son of actor Chuck Norris — wrote and directed the film. He dropped by the studio to explain why he though it was important Lubbock sees it:

“Really, Lubbock is, Lubbock is a great place, it’s a great city, and there’s a lot of patriots and a lot of people that kind of understand the political environment in Lubbock, so it was really important that this was one of the cities that our film opened in, because we are in limited theaters across the country.”

The unrated movies runs an hour-and-a-half, and opens Friday night at Movies 16.

The Lubbock Community Theatre’s continues its run of “Leading Ladies.” It’s a PG comedy about two down-on-their luck Shakespearean actors who to try to pass as two long-lost English nephews to get an inheritance… but they find out they have to be nieces, instead. The show is this weekend and next, with Friday and Saturday night performances and Sunday matinees. You can get your $20 tickets through lubbockcommunitytheatre.org.
