South Plains College sent an email notice to students Thursday asking for help to stop a man who has approached women while naked.

“This man is nude and has approached women in parks and parking lots,” the email said, “He is reported to have grabbed a woman’s shoulder.”

The email said:

South Plains College and the Levelland Police Department is asking for your assistance in apprehending a man who has been seen around the Levelland community. This man is nude and has approached women in parks and parking lots. In one case a young woman was shoved by him, in another he is reported to have grabbed a woman’s shoulder. If you are approached by this man, please call 911 immediately and make note of the direction he goes and a description of any vehicle he drives off in.

There were “no reports on campus” according to Dane Dewbre, SPC Associate Dean of Marketing and Development.

Dewbre said the email notification was more of a precaution to “make students aware of their surroundings.”

He also said the investigation is ongoing with the Levelland Police Department.

“I feel safe on campus generally, but it’s like in every alone parking lot, if I go by myself I’m kind of getting kind of nervous that he might come up,” said SPC student Alexis Moore.

“For young people, I wouldn’t want them to have to see that. You never know what he could do,” student Ryan Lacy said. Lacy said he was not worried about his safety, but acknowledged female students could have concerns.

Calls to Levelland Police and the Hockley County Sheriff’s Department were not returned Thursday.
