Los Hermanos Familia of Lubbock is proud to announce that 43 men and youth were nominated in 13 categories of the 2nd Annual “Adelante Awards,” a recognition program showcasing and honoring Hispanic men in the Lubbock community, who excel in their careers and volunteer efforts.

“We are extremely proud of the collection of men and youth who are all so deserving of recognition,” said Christy Martinez-Garcia, Chair of the Adelante Awards Banquet.

Martinez-Garcia announced the following 43 men and youth nominated in 13 categories. They are: Arts & Entertainment: Joe Arredondo, and the late Orestes “West” Garza. Athlete / Athletics Supporter: Ben Ybañez Jr. and Eric Gutiérrez. Business Owner: Joel Gonzales and Juan Miguel Hernandez. Church: David Gonzales, Epifanio Aguirre Sr., Henry Castellano, Joe A. Lopez, Pete Paniagua, Raymond Flores, and Robert Marquez Urrutia. Civic/Volunteer: Marciano Morales. Education: Christopher J. Smith, Christopher Lopez, Edmund Becerra, Frank Ramos, Jorge A. Ramirez, Juan Sanchez Muñoz, Manuel Cedillo, Michael Gomez, Ricardo Rodriguez, Manuel Prieto, and Yancy Nuñez. First Responder: Ray Mendoza. Media: Gilbert Saldaña Jr., Henry Ramos, and Jake Gonzales.  Medical: Juan Roberto Garcia. Military/Veteran: Danny Lara, Jeremy Lorenzo Sedeño, Joe B. Carrillo, and Marty Ledesma. Professional: Adrian Jimenez, Christopher Ramirez, James Salas, and Jason Medina. College Young Adult: Hector Ricardo Aguirre, and Sebastian Luciano Garcia. And for Youth (Up to 17): Alpha Garcia, Jared Velasquez, and Marco A. Quiñonez

She added that the Spanish word Adelante, truly describes the Hispanic men who work tenaciously for the greater good of the community, and have made, or are making an impact on past, current, and future generations and moving them forward.

The award recipients will be announced at the Adelante Awards Banquet, to be held Friday, May 6, 2016, at 6 p.m., at the Civic Center Banquet Hall located 1501 Mac Davis Lane, in Lubbock.

The Soaring Eagle Award will be given to a volunteer of Los Hermanos Familia. This award is given annually to a member.

A tribute to the late Orestes “West” Garza, will be held to honor his contribution to the entertainment community.

A post social hour called “Hora Social con Pan Dulce y Café” will be sponsored by New York Life Insurance following the banquet to allow for photos, as well as socializing. Entertainment will be provided by De La Cruz con Amor. Pastries by Jimenez Bakery.

The Adelante Award’s program is an initiative of Los Hermanos Familia who became a nonprofit organization in June 2014, and was established in 2008. A portion of the proceeds provide college scholarship male students. Further, LHF is now preparing for the 8th Annual “Vamos a Pescar, Let’s Go Fishing” event to be held, Saturday, August 13, 2016.
