If I had a dollar for every time that I’ve heard a sports fan say, “Man, if only our team could play that way every night.”

I’m telling you, I’d be a millionaire.

Funny thing about that is, isn’t that what a good team is? Being able to show up night in and night out and perform at the same level.

That’s what made Tom Brady, “Tom the Terrific.”

It’s what earned “Old Man Riverwalk” five rings.

And even though I hate to say it, it’s what led the New York Yankees to 27 titles. Well, that and a lot of money.

If you are looking for that level of consistency on Texas Tech’s campus, look no further than the men’s and women’s tennis programs. On Tuesday, both teams secured an NCAA host site, meaning Texas Tech was one of only 8 eight programs in the land to have both their men’s and women’s clubs play on their home turf for the first two rounds of the NCAA tournament.

However, this is just a continuation of the monsters these men have helped build. This year, both clubs have already set the single season victories record – the men with 27, and the women with 23.

Petty’s group will go dancing for the fourth straight year, while the men are set to make their tenth tournament appearance in the last twelve seasons. All after securing their first ever Big 12 regular season title.

Point being, no matter the sport, championships, consistency and sustained success are not anything to take for granted, and there is no bigger stage next weekend for both Tech tennis teams as they each look to reach only their second Sweet 16 in both programs history. The road runs right here through the Hub City. It just doesn’t set up much sweeter than that.
