KAMC HD Storm Team Weather Webcast 5.7.19.
TODAY: Tuesday is a SEVERE WEATHER ALERT DAY. The South Plains has an enhanced to a moderate risk of severe weather. The enhanced risk include Lubbock county south to Lamesa, and east through Snyder and north to Guthrie. The moderate risk now includes Plainview, through Matador and extending north into the eastern panhandle.
HAZARDS: The main threat today in the South Plains will be significant hail, 2 inches in diameter or greater. Another threat being tornadoes, while less widespread of a threat in the South Plains, it is still a major concern. The area of moderate risk also includes a chance of tornadoes EF-2 or greater. Long-lived supercell thunderstorms will initiate along a dryline in the central South Plains this afternoon, likely along the I-27 and HWY 87 corridor. These storms will move to the east and northeast through the evening and gain maturity and strength as they do so. The first round of evening thunderstorms will be followed by another round of storms overnight. Overnight storms have a heavy rain and high wind threat, rather than hail.
